Nurturing Classifiers for Cerebral Palsy Sports

 

SINGAPORE, 26 – 28 JULY 2008. As part of the move to train more classifiers in cerebral palsy sports, the CPISRA Classifier Training 2008 was staged by Disability Classification & Research Centre (DCRC) in collaboration with Cerebral Palsy International Sports & Recreation Association (CPISRA). A total of 15 participants from eight countries were in Singapore to attend the course.

Docking New Standards in Sailboat Design
Collaboration between Singapore Disability Sports Council and National University of Singapore culminates in a novel design of sailboat for disabled people

23 April 2008 – Following a year of collaboration between Singapore Disability Sports Council (SDSC) and National University of Singapore, a new sailboat design project for disabled people is now undertaken by the Disability Classification and Research Centre (DCRC) to further the fabrication of the actual boat.

Rack Up 9 for Charity with Guinness

The recent Guinness 9-Ball Tour Tournament event organised by the Asia Pacific Breweries Singapore (APBS) raised more than $14,418.00 (SGD) for disability sports research.  For every signature inked on the “larger-than-life” 1.5m ball displayed at the tournament venues, APBS contributed $9.00. A total of 1,602 signatures were collected over two weekends in July at Clarke Quay and Velocity Novena respectively. The cheque was presented from APBS Marketing Manager Sebastian Loh to DCRC Chairman Frankie Thanapal Sinniah.

ECON-O-KNEE: A prosthetic knee design

Executive Summary

The average cost of a prosthetic limb which mimics the natural gait is approximately S$22,000. Cheap models of the prosthetic knee are already manufactured, but they do not provide a natural gait. The issues addressed by this prosthetic knee design are the aesthetic value (mimicking a natural gait) and the cost.
